Sometimes it is so easy to get caught up in the work of our ministry that we forget to actually enjoy the time we spend doing the Lord's work, the people we share the time with and the reason why we do it.
I can't speak for others but I've always been able to feel His hand at work while in the choir. All the people he's brought into my life over the years, the times we've shared, the activities and achievements we've accomplished has helped mold me into the person I am.
So, my challenge to all of you is to really become an active part in this group. You do not have to leave it up to your leaders to get things going. Take initiative and be pro-active. If there is something that you'd like to see the choir do, or something you'd like to share, let us know. Maybe we can work together to make it happen. A group like this does not only need the musical component. We need the spiritual and the social too. So, if we can do stuff together, like going for Randall's concert, or even just organising a lunch after practice or a movie outing, step up and take charge.
Right now, we need to look at expanding and not in the traditional way. Recruitment drives at cat class and to the public may work but it's difficult to get results. My challenge to all of you is to think of just one person that you would like to share this choir journey with. I know it sounds terribly Christian but all I'm saying is try and invite your friends to be a part of the choir. Evangelising is a very important part of what we do and we want to invite like minded people who will be easy to integrate with everyone.
And think out of the box. Age does not have to be a limit and just because someone is already in a ministry does not necessarily mean they are off limits. Many join low key ministries and then later regret it. Many of our members were formerly altar boys, from CL or the other choirs. They can even be ex-choir members that you are still in touch with and who miss singing. If all of us tried to find one other person, we will be able to grow and sustain this wonderful thing we've got going.
We are all parts of one body and no one is more important or less important.
A short story....God loves each and every one of us, flaws and all so don't be afraid to be yourself and do your part for Him!
A water bearer in India had two large pots, each
hung on the ends of a pole
which he carried across his neck. One of the pots
had a crack in it, while the
other pot was perfect and always delivered a
full portion of water.
At the end of the long walk from the stream
to the house, the cracked pot
arrived only half full. For a full two years
this went on daily, with the bearer
delivering only one and a half pots of
water to his house. Of course, the
perfect pot was proud of its
accomplishments, perfect for which it was made. But
the poor cracked pot was
ashamed of its own imperfection and miserable that it
was able to accomplish
only half of what it had been made to do.
After 2 years of what it
perceived to be bitter failure, it spoke to the
water bearer one day by the
stream. "I am ashamed of myself and I want to
apologize to you. I have been
able to deliver only half my load because this
crack in my side causes water
to leak out all the way back to your house."
However, the bearer replied, "Did you not notice
that there were flowers only on your side of the path,
but not on the other side? That's because I have
always known about your flaws and I planted
flower seeds on your side of the path and everyday
while we walk back, you've watered them. For 2 years,
I've been able to pick these beautiful flowers to
decorate my house. Without you being just the way you are,
there would be no beauty to grace this house."
God bless,
Have a great week ahead!
